What is Ubuntu?
The post-Isolation ferment in Sol gave the Ubuntu Party's founders a chance to institute broad philosophical change. Moreover, the shock of near-extinction, followed by sudden isolation and collapse, appears to have turned the population of Sol towards a more introspective bent. In individual humans, near-death experiences lead to startling long-term personality changes, including increased happiness, generosity, and willingness to give to charity. These changes are probably rooted in the psychological and neural impact of the NDE, but we believe an analogous process may have occurred on the social level. After coming so close to the end of civilization, the people of Sol appear to have stopped taking things for granted. Unlike the citizens of the GTVA, their exertions have been consistently rewarded. They have a rich system, extensive infrastructure, and a competent government: all the ingredients for a Golden Age. Ubuntu's rise appears analogous to the spontaneous revolutions that transitioned so many older nation-states to democracy. Why are we at war? Why is it an illegitimate organization? What is the relationship between the Party and the Federation? What is the Council of Elders? Who are the Fedayeen? What is the UEF's military history? What are the psychological strengths of Federation citizens? What are the weaknesses? What is our strategy against the UEF? What are the potential consequences of a failure to secure Sol? |
